Ideas for Winter Decor

Yay – it’s Friday!  This week has been a struggle!  I’m trying my best to purge, organize, and keep up daily chores, blog work, filling Etsy orders – ugh!  Do you ever feel like there just aren’t enough hours in a day!  That’s how I felt this week!   I wish I could say I’ve transitioned my home from  Christmas to winter flawlessly, but that’s not my reality!  My winter decor is still a work in progress – so I’ll have to wait to share that with you next week!  But today, I thought I’d share some of my older posts with projects to help you bring some cozy winter decor to your home.

Winter Decor Ideas Hymns and Verses

Plaid = Cozy in my book!  Here I created a large “C” monogram out of heavy cardboard and covered it with plaid fabric.  So easy to do.

Pine branches and pinecones aren’t just for Christmas – they are perfect natural elements for your winter decor.  I love to use my vintage skates in my winter decor – check your local thrift stores for ice skates!

Ice Skates - winter decor

Skis – here I used chalk paint to transform a pair of  skis to work in my winter home.  I removed the binders and just painted them with a coat of off white chalk paint and then gray chalk paint.  Distressed them a bit and taaa – daaa – you’ve taken glossy, red, graphic covered, skis to something you could purchase at a fancy home decor shop.

And, of course, you could also use real vintage skis like I did in my gallery wall this year!

Here I used a simple canvas from the craft store and silver glitter to make a statement piece for my mantel.  You can see how to make your own HERE.

You can see above that I love a pom pom garland in the winter – these photos are from different years – so you can see the same garland used over and over!  I show you how easy it is to make a pom pom garland HERE.

Winter Living Room Vignette - winter decor

Oh, how I love a hot cocoa station!  This element remains in my home after Christmas because here in the northeast, it’s brrrrrr cold!!!  This is one of my favorite hot cocoa stations created with the theme – “It’s a Marshmallow World in the Winter” – can’t you hear Dean Martin crooning!

Marshmallow World Hot Chocolate Bar - winter decor

I used polaroid style prints of Josh and Sarah’s engagement photos to create a fun garland with the lyrics from the song!  You can see more of this hot cocoa bar – HERE.

Polaroid Banner - winter decor

Some other things to make your home cozy for winter – throws and blankets, candles, and natural wood – wood slabs, branches, frames .  .  .     I hope I’ve given you a little winter decor inspiration today!  I’ll be back next week to share my home’s winter decor for 2016!  Wishing you a cozy and warm winter weekend!

Hello Doreen: I've sent two previous requests for you to please email me the patterns and directions for the Silhouette Nativity Scene, and I have not received them yet. I cannot print them (I think I'm computer illiterate, when it comes to things like that). I am already watching for broken white birch branches in my travels, so I am keen to get started. All I need is the pattern. If you wish not to send them, please let me know. [email protected] Thank you. Mary
