Making your own table place cards is super easy and a fun task for the kids to assemble to help get the table ready and pass the time was everyone waits for Thanksgiving dinner to be ready.

Today, you’ll not only learn how to make the free Thanksgiving place cards, but I want to share with you one of my favorite vintage sheet music pages from The Graphics Fairy that I like to use as a placemat for our Thanksgiving tablescape along with some mini pumpkins, pine cones, and fall gourds or a small autumn flower centerpiece.

Steps for Making A Thanksgiving Place Card

Download the file from the FREE printable library. It was created to print 8 place cards on one piece of cardstock.

You can print the file off using your home printer or send it off to a printing company like Office Depot.

Once you’ve printed out the cards, you can use an exact knife to easily cut little slits on both sides of the card if you want to weave a ribbon through to hold the place card to the linen napkin, acting as napkin rings, on your place setting.

Tips and Notes for the Place Card

You can print these on any color card stock that will go with your tablescape.

I intentionally left some space above the make a wish portion of the free printable Thanksgiving place cards for you to use as a place to add a nice personal touch. You can write your guests’ names in that blank space and you could even have a calligrapher write names on them for more professional looking name cards.

If you want to, you can leave the area blank and let your guests write their name, or maybe something that they’re thankful for as their waiting for dinner to be served. Then everyone can read theirs allowed after the Thanksgiving dinner prayer.

That’s an easy way to remind everyone of all the things we are thankful for and it is a fun way to get some conversations happening around the dinner table.

And, of course, you can always leave them blank and have some beautiful, super simple Thanksgiving place cards.

Having the names of your guests on each fun Thanksgiving place card is a great thing to have, especially if you aren’t passing dinner serving dishes around the table. Guests can easily grab their plates, head to the buffet table and fill them up with their favorite, wonderful Thanksgiving meal and head back to the table, knowing which seat is theirs at the holiday table since their names are waiting for them with their napkin. Such a nice personalized touch.

For best results, when cutting the free printable Thanksgiving cards, it may be helpful to use a paper cutter for nice straight cuts- fast and efficient.

Just a reminder that this free printable download is for personal use only, please do not go and sell this custom place card template to others.

Steps for Printing The Thanksgiving Music Sheet Placemat

Download it from The Graphics Fairy.

Head to Office Depot’s website and click Print and Copy.

Then click on Document Printing.  Then, click on Blueprints.  Then you will be prompted to upload your file.

Make sure the size is set to 12″ x 18″ and that you click “fit to size“. By clicking “fit to size”, the image will fill the page, except for the side edges, which can be trimmed off!

So, the finished size is about 12″ x 16″,  the perfect size for a placemat and I love that it is an actual piece of vintage sheet music!

What else can I do with these place cards?

If you have extra cards and don’t just want to displace them on the Thanksgiving dinner table, you could use them as food place cards. If you have specific dishes that are suitable for special diet needs such as gluten free, dairy free, etc. these may help guests know which things to avoid or indulge more in.

Additionally, you can use these as gift tags if making small holiday party gifts for family members and friends during the holiday season.

It really is super simple to make your own place cards for Thanksgiving and any other holidays. Your extended family and friends will be amazed by your creative use of vintage sheet music too! Have fun getting crafty with these free printable place cards and enjoy the holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
