Build Your Own DIY Plate Rack – Easy Plans

Today I want to show you how to build your own plate rack. This is a great beginner building project with easy plans!

First, here are the plans. They can be adjusted to the size you need for your space.

Mark put the basic frame together with pocket holes made with a Kreg Jig.  This tool is a must have!  Then, two shelves were added – equally spaced.   Finally, two pieces of screen trim were tacked on with nails (the screen trim is used to hold items on the rack).  The first at 1/4″ above the bottom edge of each shelf  (to hold the plate bottom on the shelf).  The second screen trim should be attached 3 inches above the first (to hold the plate securely).  That’s it for building!  Then I painted it with my standard white trim color.

We attached the plate rack to the wall with 4 large Command Strips and it’s secure.  Now, for the secret.  I wanted to put this plate rack in this space to disguise something – you can see it more clearly in the photo below!

Yes, the ugly thermostat!  We can still reach it easily, but it’s a bit camouflaged by the plate rack.  I’m still switching out different plates on the rack to see what I like most, and I’m sure I will switch them out seasonally too.  I got the silver chargers at Home Goods.  They are an inexpensive backdrop to any plate or tray that I want to display and are right at hand to use as well!  Let me know if you decide to build your own DIY plate rack!  Thanks for stopping by today!

It's probably not a good idea to cover your thermostat. It won’t be able to accurately read the indoor temperature, making the system run inefficiently and compromising indoor comfort levels.
