Botanical Design Christmas Tree

Hi friends. Today I’m so excited to finally share this year’s Christmas tree. Most years I decorate my Christmas tree in color theme that matches my Christmas decor. But, this year, I was inspired by my love for nature. So, today I want to share some details of my botanical design Christmas tree.

Even though most of these ornaments are in a botanical theme, I also kept to my color theme of gold that I’m using in our living room this Christmas.

Botanical Design Christmas Tree Details

I was inspired by the glass gold etched ornaments that I saw being sold by several retailers. Most of these glass ornaments have a pretty botanical design that I loved. What I didn’t love was the price tag for these ornaments.

Since I change out my Christmas decor often, I don’t like to invest in something like an ornament unless I know I will use it for many, many years. So, I decided to make my own version of these glass etched ornaments for less! And, I’ll be sharing how I made these ornaments soon.

The other DIY ornament on the tree are these gold leaf gilded walnuts. I just love how they glow, and I’ll be sharing a tutorial to make these ornaments as well.

These botanical stamped ornaments from Studio McGee are naturally pretty. But, I used a gold paint pen to highlight the stamped details and love them just a little bit more!

I’ve had these affordable glass pinecone ornaments for many years. They look high end, but are a budget friendly price! This is a similar set from the same brand.

And, I purchased these glass blown mushroom ornaments a few years at at JoAnne Fabric. Even though this exact mushroom ornament isn’t sold this year, they do have several mushroom ornament options for sale. JoAnne Fabric always has beautiful ornaments, and I like to check out their options each year.

My favorite ornament on the Christmas tree isn’t really an ornament at all. I found these clip on butterflies and loved them so much! They clip perfectly onto the tree branches and work so well with the botanical theme!

And, here’s another ornament that’s not really an ornament. I found these little gold painted feathers at Hobby Lobby and simply tied them to the branches with some black twine. They are just a sweet, unexpected touch!

BOTANICAL TREE TOPPER

This botanical deer tree topper is so sweet and unique! And, it has a clear clip that grips the top branch perfectly. No more struggling to wire on a tree topper – yay!!! When it arrived it was a really bright gold. So, I toned it down a bit with some Gold Leaf Rub N’ Buff. And, now it’s perfect!

HEIRLOOM QUALITY ORNAMENTS

I purchased these beautiful gold birds last Christmas when they were on sale for a set of 3. They are a little pricey, but are just gorgeous and I would consider them more of an heirloom ornament!

And, from the same retailer, I couldn’t resist a set of leaf ornaments. I’m so sad that they are no longer available on the website for me to even show you. But, it’s a set of 24 different pressed zinc leaves. There are gingko leaves, oak leaves, maple leaves, ferns and just about any variety of leaf you could imaging. And, they are in a variety of sizes. Some leaves are tiny and some are about as large as the bird ornaments above. And, they come with a gold wire hanger. And, this large set was much more reasonable than the gold birds. I think they were around $24 for the complete set. If I see them next year, I’ll be sure to share them early in the season!

The final botanical element are these dried hydrangea stems from my yard. I just cut the stems short and nestled them onto some of the branches.

SPECIAL GOLD BALL ORNAMENTS

In addition to the above botanical elements, I did add some pretty gold ball ornaments. I have had these tinsel ball ornaments for a few years. They are so beautiful and work with almost any color theme you choose.

I picked up some of these gold flocked ornaments this year. These are reasonably priced compared to flocked ornaments from other retailers. And, I love the antique gold shade.

And, for some added sparkle, I did something I thought I would never do! I added gold tinsel to my tree! I have been anti-tinsel for so long. But, for some reason, it seemed right for this tree, and I’m loving the sparkle that it gives to the entire tree! My grandmother used to load her Christmas tree with draping silver tinsel. I used it a bit more sparingly with intention so it wouldn’t distract from all the other ornaments.

AMAZING ORNAMENT HANGERS

Finally, I wanted to share these great ornament hangers that are “the best”! I got a few sets last year and a few more this year, so now I have plenty. They don’t get lost because they are much more substantial than most ornament hangers. And, they come in silver or gold. You can see them in many of the ornament photos shown above.

I hope you’ve been inspired by some of the not so traditional ornaments shown on my Botanical design Christmas tree! I really enjoyed the process of decorating my tree this year. The DIY ornaments were so fun to make and I’ll be back soon to share the process for both with you! And, I just had to include this sweet capture of Poppy! She has gotten so big and her best feature, for sure, is that tail! She’s the best little sister for Sadie and really loves the Christmas tree (ha, ha)!
