How to Find the Age of an Old Canning Jar

Do you have any old Ball canning jars and wonder how old they really are? Today I’m sharing some tips I found that will help you find the age of an old canning jar.

Here in Lancaster County, old canning jars are pretty easy to come by! Lancaster County’s Amish community and German roots are famous for storing up the year’s harvest by canning. I have a German heritage and fondly remember my relatives canning fruit and vegetables each year! I don’t think I ever had a vegetable from a can until I had left home to go to college!

And, canning is still a way of life for many people here in Lancaster County. I admit, I don’t can a lot. Why, because I’m lucky to live in an area where there are so many sources for fresh fruits and vegetables. But, I do love the old canning jars and have some really old ones in different shapes and sizes! I especially love the blue Ball jars and if I see a box for sale at an auction or antique shop, I’ll stop to check them out!

Today’s Home & Decor Encore post is about a box of old canning jars that I found several years ago that looked especially old and unusual! So, I went on a search to try to find out how old they really were! This post was originally written in 2017 and it’s still one of my most popular posts by search! So, if you have any old Ball canning jars, click on my link below to get my tips for dating them!
