Back in the spring, I found an inexpensive vintage suitcase at a local antique shop. I brought it home, cleaned it up and painted it white. I wanted to add stripes and decided on green. I marked off my stripes with my blue brand painter’s tape and painted the stripes with a green acrylic paint. After I removed the tape, this is what I found.
That’s not a very crisp line is it . . . . In addition to the lines not being so crisp, I really wasn’t crazy about the color green. I tried adding some dark wax to try to mute the color a bit, but it was still too bright! This week, I decided to repaint the suitcase stripes and edges.
This time I used the Frog Tape, that I received in my Haven swag bag, to tape off the green lines! I have heard rave reviews of Frog Tape, but had never tried it myself.
I used Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray to paint the stripes. Here’s a close-up after I removed the Frog Tape. That’s a big improvement from the above green stripe!
For now, the suitcase is in the living room. I’m not sure it will stay there, but with the color now – it can work in any room!

Did you paint with brush or spray? Did you prime it? How do you protect the pain from scratching off after painting? It's beautiful. I've got three suitcases of my grandparents and desperately need storage. I think I'll steal your idea of the stripes. Thank you.

Hi. I used a paint brush. You could use a spray on clear coat for protection after painting.

I like using Frog tape and have found it to be better than some of the other brands. Your suitcase looks beautiful. I have been collecting suitcases from local thrift shops and am planning to paint them to co-ordinate with each other. I love storing things in suitcases and it is even better when they can double as decor, as you have done here!

Oh how pretty! I'm with you, the green was a little strong. It looks perfect now and it also looks good there beside the fireplace. I've seen suitcases in thrift stores but I haven't bought one yet, maybe it's time :) Have a good weekend.
