Best of 2016 – My Favorite Posts

Can you even believe that Christmas is over and we are moving into a new year – 2017!  I don’t know about you, but I always get excited for a new year!  It’s like a challenge to see what I can accomplish in the coming year!  As I’ve been thinking about things I want to do in the new year, I’ve also taken time to look back at what I did accomplish in 2016.  So, here’s a little walk down the Hymns and Verses 2016 memory lane!  Here’s the Best of 2016!

“Pray Big” Chalkboard Printable

Pray Big Chalkboard Printable

Wow – did you like this printable!  It is one of my favorites too and a good reminder!  I also shared how to enlarge the print, frame it, and make it look even more like a real chalkboard.  I’m working on a new printable for the New Year and hopefully you’ll love it as much as you did the “Pray Big” chalkboard printable!

Wood Plank Wall

DIY Wood Plank Wall

In February, after many Fixer Upper episodes, I convinced my hubs that we “needed” a faux shiplap wall!  I didn’t go all crazy, because who knows if this is  just a trend, but one feature wall really brightened up my living room and added a layer of texture that I absolutely love!  I’m so glad we did it!

This rusty galvanized bucket with willow branches is one of my favorite images from my 2016 Spring Home Tour.  You can see the whole tour by clicking the link above.

April

Lavendar Topiaries

Hymns & Verses - lavender topiaries

In April I shared where I found these amazing lavender topiaries at my local Costco! Aren’t they just gorgeous!  I hate to admit that I failed to keep them alive longer than a month or so.  My friend got one too and she planted her’s outdoors and it lived all through summer and into fall!  So, in April, I’ll be looking for these beauties again at Costco and this time I’ll move them outdoors where they’ll get some sunshine!

May

Vintage Bottles

Repurposed bottle vases

In May you can find my out looking for treasures at yard sales, barn sales, and markets.  On one of these outings, I found these vintage torpedo soda bottles.  I brought them home, cleaned them up a bit, and created hanging vases for my kitchen window – perfect for spring blooms!

June

Knock Off Pottery Barn Flag Art

2016 Summer Home Tour

This was one of my most successful DIY projects.  I do have to admit that my husband gets most of the credit.  I showed him the picture of the Pottery Barn Hermosa Flag from the catalog and asked him if he could remake it using the PB dimensions given.  He figured out all the measurements. cuts, and assembly.  I did do the staining and painting!  You will be seeing this over the coming years because I just love how it turned out!

And, here’s another favorite from the month of June!

2016 Summer Screen Porch

2016 Hymns and Verses Screened Porch

You know I love to decorate my screen porch.  I had so much fun incorporating more vintage finds into the porch decor!  It was perfect for July 4th and all summer long!

Black & White Tile Wallpaper – Powder Room Makeover

Black and White Tile Wallpaper

This room is small, but boy was it a doozy of an update!  This room really got prettied up thanks to the black and white tile wallpaper!  It has a texture to it and I love the look!   You can read all the details for this tiny space update by clicking the link above the photo!

Real Corn Husk Wreath

This was a super easy DIY and my post includes my first ever video tutorial.  That is something that is on my “to-do” list for 2017 – more video tutorials!

2016 Christmas Home Tour

And, finally – my Christmas Home Tour.  Wow – what a year!  I really did accomplish a few things!  We also got new flooring in our first and second floors!  You can see that change by comparing this photo to one of the earlier month’s above.   Thank you for following along with me in 2016!

I’m so looking forward to 2017!  There will be lots of fun room updates, DIY projects, and decorating ideas to share with you in the coming year!

Hi, Melissa. I have had them for so long, that I don't remember. They are wood. Maybe check at Home Depot or Lowes. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Doreen, I had a hard choosing a favorite. Everything you put your hand to is always beautiful. But, I have to say that your porch is so inviting, I just want to step through the screen and have a nice sit there.

All the best for a blessed New Year!
