Budget Friendly Fall Home Decor

I think this year we are all trying to pinch our pennies. And, one way to do that is to use more budget friendly fall home decor this year!

WELCOME TO MY FALL HOME TOUR

Today I’m joining some of my blogging friends to share some of our fall home decor. This seasonal tour is hosted by Marty of A Stroll Thru Life and there are 25+ homes featured. You can visit Monday through Thursday’s tours by following the links at the end of my post. And, stop back tomorrow to see Friday’s tours. If you’re here visiting from Southern Hospitality, wasn’t Rhoda’s fall decor gorgeous! In addition to amazing style, Rhoda’s home always feels so welcoming and warm.

Now, let’s talk about using budget friendly fall home decor.

Does budget friendly mean cheap?

To me, cheap means something is poorly made, thus making it inexpensive. I prefer to find things that are higher quality at a less expensive price point. And, I’m going to show you some ways to do the same in your home this fall!

BUDGET FRIENDLY FALL HOME DECOR IDEAS

  • Get the look for less! A home decor trend I’ve seen a lot this year are textiles that have the look of vintage rugs or tapestry. I really love this trend and would say that for anyone who loves vintage, it’s not really a trend. An example of this style is this gorgeous pillow cover from Pottery Barn. So, I went on a search to find something similar with a better price point for my fall home and here’s what I found!
Vintage French Sofa with Antique Equestrian Art above

The striped pillow and the lumbar pillow were made from actual handmade Turkish Kilim rugs. I found them on Etsy and was really amazed at the quality of these pillow covers when I received them! Both have zipper closures with a neutral canvas backing.

And, the best part, the large striped pillow measures 24 x 24 and was under $12!!! And, the 12 x 20 oblong pillow was under $10!!! I paid $15 for shipping from Turkey and received my order in about a week. All in all, I’m thrilled to have found this seller and can’t recommend these pillow covers more!

  • For wall art, consider downloading Free Public Domain vintage artwork. If you have followed me for a while, you know that this is something that I love to do! Because I like to change out my decor seasonally and because I just like change, this is an affordable option for me! Public domain art is free to download.

This vintage equestrian painting above my sofa doesn’t scream fall, but I do think it has the perfect fall feel! Early next week I’ll be sharing the sources for this public domain painting and all of the other art in today’s tour! So, be sure to stop back!

And, while we are on the topic of Public Domain art, these vintage butterfly prints on either side of the mantel are already available to download in my FREE Printable Library here on the blog! And, there are three additional prints in this set. They are sized as 11″ x 14″ prints. I picked up the frames I used at a local thrift store for under $6 for the pair. The frames were originally a blond wood with 70’s style clown pictures in them – ugh! I think my husband thought I was crazy when I brought them home. But, a little gold leaf Rub ‘n Buff on the wood frames gave them the look I wanted! I would much rather buy a solid wood and glass frame with ugly art that can be removed, than a brand new, fake wood frame that has been cheaply made. All of the art shown in my home today have frames that I found at a thrift store!

I have to take a minute to talk about the elephant in the room, the chairs you can see a bit of in the above photo! The gray tufted arm chairs that were in this space were sold, and I purchased these two vintage chairs to replace them. I already purchased fabric to reupholster them and the plan is to make sure they are completed in time for Christmas! I’ll be sharing more about them soon!

  • Visit your local greenhouse for fall perennials to use indoors as decor before planting outdoors. This is a favorite trick of mine, especially when I am having guests over or staging photos for the blog. The photo below has two fall perennial pots tucked inside the basket. The heuchera (coral bells) has the prettiest leaves that range in color from wine to green. And, I tucked in a smaller pot of sedum in a deep wine shade. Both of these plants are shade loving perennials, and I’ll be planting them outside next week so I can enjoy them for years to come!
  • Shop your home. Okay, this one is probably obvious! But, we don’t always need to buy more! I did go shopping at my favorite home stores as I was preparing for this tour, but found that I just wasn’t drawn to any of the fall decor I saw! So, I did what I should have done to start with and looked at what I already had!

I brought out this wood pumpkin from a few years ago and the gold acorn figure to sit on the stack of books. I hung up the basket that held books and magazines earlier this year. And, the one thing I did buy was the small dried wreath. I loved the simplicity of it and the fact that I’ll be able to use in year after year. I wish I could share a link for it because it is so good, but I got it on clearance and it’s now sold out.

And my favorite little spot to be creative with art is this gallery wall that I change out seasonally. I really love this particular combination of art with shades of brown and gold. As mentioned earlier, I’ll be sharing all of the sources for the vintage art early next week! But, you can read about how I put together a gallery wall in this post and how to size public domain art to fit any frame in this post.

On the dresser/buffet, I used a tall brass urn to hold another heuchera plant from the garden center. Again, I’ll be planting this perennial outside next week, but doesn’t it look pretty here in the dining room! And, while I was at the garden center, I had to pick up a mum too!

  • Consider buying vintage decor pieces. The corner cabinet holds a combination of things that I already had along with a few vintage pieces that I scored at a local thrift store! The glazed pottery pieces on the second shelf were all found all on the same day at the same thrift store and all for under $20!
  • Shop the produce department at the grocery store for fall fruit. Instead of faux fruit, pick up some real fruit and place it in a pretty bowl on the table! It looks good and tastes good too! Apples, pears, plums, artichoke, squash, and more are all great alternatives to pumpkins in fall decor! And, don’t forget about the nuts! Walnuts and other nuts remind me of my grandfather who always had a bowl full with a nutcracker by his chair in the fall months!
  • Buy useful pieces. I do like having some seasonal pieces for entertaining or even just serving family. I got this pumpkin shaped drink dispenser with matching cups last fall. It’s perfect for serving apple cider, a fall sangria or any seasonal beverage. I wanted to share it today before it sells out because it sold out so fast last year! Be sure to check your local store for in store pick up!

I repurposed some dried branches that I had to make this seasonal arrangement for the kitchen island. And, this gourd is also one that I had from a prior year. In the background on the kitchen counter are new, dark brown mugs I picked up and a small domed server. Both are currently on sale!

And, I always pick up a few flour cloth kitchen towels each season! Why not – they’re inexpensive, useful, and they coordinate with my decor!

  • Forage stems and branches. Take a walk in nature and pick up some leaves, branches, dried flowers, acorns, etc. I did this and made a wreath for my pantry door. I love the brown tones with the gold velvet ribbon that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.
  • Bonus Fall Decorating Idea: Search for pumpkins that are a little unusual! Sure you can always pick up the standard orange variety, but I love all the new and heirloom pumpkins that I’ve been seeing more and more!

Thanks for stopping by today to see my fall home! I hope you enjoyed my budget friendly fall home decor! Next up on today’s tour is Worthing Court! Suzy is a southern girl and you’re gonna love her classic style! Be sure to visit the other fall homes by following the links below!
