Golden Christmas Home Decor

It really is the most wonderful time of the year! When our homes become “magical” with sparkle and twinkle. And, the scents of pine, citrus and spice make you feel warm inside! Can you tell I love Christmastime! I wish we could have Christmas all year, but then it wouldn’t be as special. Today, I’m sharing my home all decked out for the holidays in warm, golden Christmas hues.

Welcome to my Christmas Home Tour

A special thanks to my friend, Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, for hosting this annual Christmas Tour of Homes. If you’re here visiting from Chalking Up Success, welcome to my home! Didn’t Jayne have some great decorating ideas and her home looked so cozy decorated for the holidays.

At the end of my tour, you’ll find links to all the tours shared this week! Now, let’s take a look around my home.

If you’re new here, I live in a relatively small home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We moved here with three small boys, who are now grown and have families of their own. When the boys were young, I enjoyed making the holiday season magical for them. But, I also want my home to feel warm and welcoming. So, step inside the front door and come into our warm and golden Christmas living room.

LIVING ROOM

As I mentioned, my initial plan was to use mainly golden tones in my Christmas decor this year. As things began to come together I found myself adding in a little bit of color in the living room with some teal and rosey shades. I’ll be sharing all of the vintage art that you’ll see in today’s tour, including this gorgeous piece above the sofa, in a separate post next week.

My fireplace mantel is always one of the first things that I decorate at Christmas. This year I used this 12 candle candelabra from Hearth and Hand by Magnolia on the mantel. The oval mirror hanging over the mantel is vintage. And, the garland is a mix of faux greens added to a real feel Norfolk pine garland. Each year I like to invest in really good quality faux greenery that will hold up from year to year and looks realistic.

The stockings on the mantel are the prettiest dull teal shade with fun pompom details. When I saw them, I knew that they would compliment the gold shades I was planning to use. And, I picked up these botanical initial ornaments to hang from Mark’s and my stockings.

The decor on the small cocktail table by the fireplace is pretty much the same except I added some garland and a ribbon to the vintage style bust.

The art on either side of the fireplace is by Volume 25. I saw these prints shared on Instagram and knew they would be perfect here in the living room. The print on the left is called “Dove Struck” and the right print is “Black Pine“. They are so beautiful and the quality of the canvas prints is amazing. And, they not “Christmas specific”, so I can leave them up all winter.

This year I found that the new items I purchased for the season were not really Christmas specific. Like the art and the new velvet drapes in the living room. I found the drapes on Amazon at such a great price and the quality is amazing.

Last week I shared all the details of my Christmas tree. All of the ornaments are botanical in nature. There are butterflies, gold leaves, gold feathers, gold walnuts, birds, and more. You can see all the details and the ornaments I used in this post.

And, the vintage high back chairs seen on either side of the tree were recently transformed with the help of some Rit Dye. You can read all about the chairs and how they went from tan to charcoal in this post.

If you look closely at the music roll on the player piano, you can see that it is a bit blurred out and some of the keys are depressed. I had it playing some Christmas music while I took this photo! In addition to the family photos that are normally on the piano, I added some Target Dollar Spot teal trees and some gold bottle brush trees. Then, I draped more of the Norfolk pine real feel garland on the front of the piano using large Command hooks to hold it in place. The bells look like a garland, but are bell ornaments I found at Hobby Lobby and are tucked into the garland.

Christmas dining room

As you enter the dining room, you first see the small gallery wall of vintage Christmas and winter art.

The “Peace on Earth” canvas in the dining room is an easy DIY that I’ll be sharing more about soon. My antique corner cabinet is styled with just a few Christmas touches. But, the star of the cabinet is the golden pine garland draped over the top and down one side. The garland has a vintage look and I couldn’t resist it. And, you can see that I used the same velvet drapes here in the dining room that I used in the living room. The shade is called golden brown.

I had the crazy idea of tying gold bottle brush wreaths to the backs of my dining room chairs. They were inexpensive, but covered in gold glitter – ugh! So, if you visit my home, you will probably leave with a little bit of sparkle! I do love how they look tho!

For a centerpiece, I made this organic advent display with moss, pinecones, branches, some vintage ornaments, a white amaryllis bulb and candles. I can’t wait for the amaryllis bulb to grow!

christmas kitchen

The kitchen has just a few Christmas touches.

I moved the coffee maker and tea kettle together to make a little hot beverage station for the cold weather months. And, then draped more evergreen garland over the kitchen window with a string of gold bells. That pretty flowering hellabore beside the sink will get planted outdoors eventually and come back year after year. It blooms early and its common name is Lenten Rose.

The black swan art above the range is a piece I purchased last year from Kara Rosenberry on Instagram.

And, here’s another glimpse of the gallery wall that leads into the kitchen.

Christmas Entry

My entryway is a hard spot to photograph, but I did want to share it today.

The Noel art is another DIY. The background is a teal velvet and I used hot glue to attach the four botanical letter ornaments to spell NOEL. This was so easy and I used a frame that I had on hand. On the little table is my nativity and new record player. It’s been so fun listening to some Christmas classics on vinyl this year!

And, this is Poppy. She’s fluffy and full of personality and came to live with us this past year! She’s been such a fun addition to our home!

I hope you enjoyed this virtual tour of my golden Christmas home. Next up on today’s schedule is Eleanor Rose Home. I know I can’t wait to see what Heidi is sharing with us today! You will love her style.

You've decorated your home so beautifully for the holidays Doreen. The gallery wall is gorgeous and the mantel garland looks even prettier with the ribbon and bells attached. Your home is so inspiring. Happy Holidays!

Doreen, I truly enjoyed your Christmas tour! Lovely, lovely. May I ask where you found the Norfolk pine garlands? They are very nice looking. I also appreciated your sharing the velvet curtains… I ordered a pair and look forward to receiving them!! A great deal. Have a blessed Christmas! Cheryl

Hi, Cheryl

These garlands are available at a few places. First, is Afloral https://www.afloral.com/collections/artificial-pines-cedars. But, they always sell out early in the season. I picked mine up at Kirklands this year because they had them in store and they were running a sale that made them much more affordable. I used two garlands on my mantel this year and two for the piano. I will say that they are really well made and about as realistic as you'll get in an artificial garland. Hope this helps. Next year I'll be sure to share them early so everyone has a chance to get some!

I have never seen a tour of your whole home before. It's quite lovely. I especially love the darker touches. I checked out the drapes on Amazon and was wondering if they are the gold brown velvet.
