New Bamboo Roman Shades in the Living Room

September 18, 2017 by Hymns and Verses 9 Comments

I didn’t get a chance to share the new bamboo shades in my living room last week, so I wanted to jot off a quick post about them today. First off, why did I finally decide to get shades for my living room windows.  I haven’t used shades or blinds on any of my windows in the past because, frankly, I like the open look.   This spring and summer we’ve been doing some major updates in our family room, which is where we normally have our TV.  But, with all of the reno and dust, we temporarily moved the TV to the living room above the mantel. You would never have known that because I never shared a photo of our mantel with a TV on it!  Can you tell I wasn’t thrilled about having the TV there!  But, sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do and it really was the only place that made sense.

The afternoon sun streams through the living room windows and created a glare on the TV.  The men in the house felt it was absolutely necessary to have the option of blocking that sun!  For a time, we just pulled the drapes, but then I was always fussing with the drapes to make sure they were hanging straight.  So, I finally gave in to the idea of blinds or shades that could be raised or lowered easily.   I’ve admired the look of wood Roman shades in other homes and began my search for quality wood shades that didn’t break my budget!

Bamboo Shades

I finally settled on these bamboo Roman shades from the Home Decorator’s Collection at the Home Depot.  The price was right, they are made to order to fit your window width, and I loved the color of the bamboo wood (driftwood).  The driftwood shade is a gray/brown color that works perfectly with my decor.

We’ve had these shades now for a little over a month and I really love them and wonder why it took me so long to agree to getting them! They look good raised or lowered and block the sun when needed.  It’s also nice to have the option to close them at night for a little extra privacy.  The curtains shown here are the Ingert curtains from Ikea in beige.  I would consider them a soft golden color and thought they would be perfect for fall.  I’ve added a new feature to my blog called “SHOP MY HOME“.    Just click on SHOP MY HOME in the navigation bar underneath my blog header, and you will be redirected  to the SHOP MY HOME page with links for shopping.

I think I really like your shades but you only photographed them drawn up short. Would you share a photo of what the shades look like when they are down? Thank you!

I love them! It is so strange that I ordered the same ones from Home Depot and am waiting on them for my mom’s sitting area in her master!

Love the new look!! IKEA is such a wonderful place for drapery curtains!! We have to travel nearly two hours (if traffic flows!!) to get to an IKEA !! I’d like to switch out for winter but not this year!! But I think with drapes/curtains not costing thousands now, it’s fun to change them a bit more often. You demonstrate how very different your living room looks with the change. I think you’ve found a great look–again🏡😊

I love your shades! I love the texture they bring to your room! I wanted these for my bay window in my dining room but my husband wanted a blind he could open and close! I’m thinking of getting a bamboo one for my tv room- it’s a good size window!

I have these exact shades on almost every window in my home and I absolutely love them. I was a bit leery at first about ordering shades online from Home Depot, so I only purchased one. Once I saw the quality and of course the fantastic price – I ordered 20 more! I purchased the driftwood color and the expresso- love them both.
