This is week two of my family’s favorite fall foods! This recipe for sweet and tangy sloppy joes was a recipe given to me at my bridal shower 31 years ago! Oh my goodness, that makes me sound so old – I did marry young!!! Back to the recipe – for my bridal shower, my mother collected recipes from family and friends and gave them to me in a special recipe book. There are only a few recipes from that book that I still make and this is one of them.
These barbecue beef sandwiches, or sloppy joes, are my favorite! They are sweet and tangy and don’t require onion! You see, my husband and two of my boys have an aversion to onion. They don’t mind the taste, but they hate the texture! So, everything I make that has onion included either gets pureed or I use onion salt. For this recipe, I use onion salt.
Sweet & Tangy Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
1 lb. ground chuck
1/2 c. ketchup
2 T. white vinegar
2 T. sugar
1 T. yellow mustard
1 T. Worchestershire sauce
1/2 cup diced onion or sprinkle onion salt
Fry ground chuck and onion (if using onion salt, sprinkle the ground chuck with the onion salt). Drain fat. Add other ingredients and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes.
I often pair these sandwiches with another favorite recipe, crock pot macaroni and cheese. It’s the ultimate comfort food meal! You can find the recipe for crock pot macaroni and cheese HERE.

I'm making Sloppy Joe's with Mac & Cheese for dinner tonight! My favorite Sloppy Joe recipe is almost identical to yours!!! Best comfort food meal after grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup :)
