Do you change up your home decor seasonally? I know that as a home decor blogger who has lots of blogging friends who do what I do, I can sometimes forget that not everyone does what we do! But, I will say that changing up my decor seasonally is something I did do even before I had this blog. Bringing in lighter and brighter pieces for the spring season lifts my spirits just like the springtime sunshine!
Updating Your Bedroom Decor for the Spring Season
The biggest change is a new bed!!! Can you believe that in our almost 34 years of marriage, Mark and I have never had a new bed – until now! We’ve had hand-me-downs and DIY’s, but not a complete bed that was brand new! It was time! I’ve loved this vintage style iron bed look for some time and I’m so happy with this Copake Panel Bed from Wayfair. The quality is really good and I got it when it was an amazing sale! If you’ve never purchased anything from Wayfair, I will say that I’ve had good experience with the items I’ve ordered. The shipping is fast and I’ve never had something arrive damaged. If you find something you like on Wayfair, be sure to keep checking for sales.
My plan was to make a skirted coverlet out of drop cloth for this new bed. But, I saw this coverlet and the price was the same price or less than what I would have had to pay for the supplies to make my own! It was a no brainer to order it. It’s lightweight, but I like that for the warmer weather that is to come! We also have a quilt at the foot of the bed that we can pull up if it’s a cold night. My friend Anita at Cedar Hill Farmhouse has a tutorial to make your own coverlet in her book: French Accents.
Adding some spring flowers to your bedside table or nightstand is an easy seasonal update! These tulips are faux, but I’ll switch them out for real if I find a pretty bouquet at the grocery store! The other update I did for spring was to switch out my darker gray lampshades for these white drum shades. Lampshades can be expensive, but I find some really great ones at Ross that are so reasonably priced. These two white drum shades were just $8.99 each! That’s two shades for under $20! HomeGoods, Marshall’s, and TJ Maxx also have shades for sale, but I seem to find the best prices at Ross.
The white ruffled shams can be found HERE. I have had them for a while. And I made the gray buffalo checked ruffled pillow cases. They were so easy to make! Let me know if you’d like me to create a tutorial. And, this raw edge flower pillow was another fun find from Ross! It was just $12! I decided to hang a spring painting over the bed instead of the signs that I’ve used in that space for years. Again, I was just ready for a change and I’m having so much fun painting these days!
You can catch a glimpse of the quilt at the foot of the bed here. Can you believe this was a wedding gift!!! It’s been around for a long time! So, it goes to show that you don’t always have to buy new to get the look you want!
I added a few spring season accessories to the one dresser in our small bedroom. The terrarium, faux mini orchid and fern are all from Ikea. I got them a few years ago, but I think they still sell them. The concrete bunny and glass mister are both from Target – again, I purchased these a few years ago, but they have similar styles for sale now. And, the one new item is the botanical sketch art from Hobby Lobby. It was around $12 (the week it was 50% off). Don’t ever pay full price for anything at Hobby Lobby. They rotate their sales and if it’s not on sale one week, it will likely be on sale the next!
The white crackled vase is from one of my favorite local shops, Cocalico Creek. It holds more fresh willow branches – this time, curly willow!
Its hard to get a good shot when the sun is shining through the window, but I wanted to show that Sadie’s favorite spot is still the hanging basket perch that I made her! It’s her bird watching spot! I’d love to hear what you think of my bedroom spring season refresh! And, I hope you are having a great week!
