Five Decor Ideas to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Who’s ready for spring? I know that my hand is raised high! This past week we’ve had temperatures in the 70’s one day and then snow on the ground another! But, we know for sure that spring is on its way! So, let’s get our homes ready! Today, I’m going to share five decor ideas to get your home ready for spring!

welcome to my spring home tour

This week is the annual spring tour of homes hosted by my friend Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. If you’re here visiting from Citrine Living, welcome! I just love the soft blue and white hues in Tamara’s home. At the end of today’s post you’ll find the links to all 28 homes in this year’s tour.

Five Decor Ideas to Get your Home Ready for Spring

Vintage French Sofa

1. Change out your pillows and throws

It’s time to pack away all of the chunky knit, boucle, and faux fur pillows and bring in light and bright linen, cotton, and embroidered fabrics. Even your throw blanket should reflect the warmer season. There are many lighter weight throws that are perfect for the spring and summer months.

Spring pillows

Here’s a closer look at a few of the pillows on my sofa for spring. The floral print is one that I made with fabric purchased from a local shop. I’m loving these soft shades of yellow, blush, and green for spring this year.

2. Use Real or faux plants in your spring decor

Living room mantel

In the past few years the popularity of house plants has grown by leaps and bounds! While we were closed up in our homes, these green living plants gave us something to nurture and care for.

And, spring is the perfect time of year to add a few more! Even if you don’t have a green thumb, there are some spectacular faux plants available today! The plant on the mantel above is a ficus audrey. Below is a ficus lyrata or Fiddle Leaf Fig that I’ve managed to keep alive over the winter!!

3. change heavy drapes to lighter fabric curtains

Vintage Library Table and Gray Tufted Chairs

Over the fall and winter months, I tend to have heavier drapes hanging on my windows. But, with the onset of warmer weather, I like to lighten up my window coverings. These loosely woven linen curtain panels are looking a little yellow in my photos, but are really a nice neutral in person. And, they definitely feel more like spring than the heavy velvet drapes that I used over the winter months.

4. Update Art to Reflect the Season

Vintage Player Piano

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I love to use vintage artwork in my home. And, I will often change the art to reflect the seasons. This small gallery wall between my living room and dining room is especially fun to update seasonally!

You can see my tips for creating a gallery wall with vintage art in this post and how to size and print vintage artwork to fit any frame in this post. Next week I’ll be sharing the sources for all of the vintage artwork shown in today’s tour.

Dining Room and Vintage Gallery Wall

As you can see, there are more plants in the dining room! I wanted some pretty flowers for this vintage Easter basket, but wasn’t finding anything that I liked. Then, I visited one of my favorite local greenhouses and spotted some pretty white streptocarpella (false violet) hanging baskets.

I brought one home and removed the hanger and placed it in the Easter basket! I love that I can use this flowering plant outdoors on my porch in a few weeks!

5. Spring Dinnerware

I have a few different sets of dinnerware that I’ve collected over the years. In the fall and winter months, I tend to use my heavier, stoneware pieces. But, in the spring months I love to bring out some of the vintage china pieces that I’ve collected.

Here in my corner cabinet, I have an eclectic mix of vintage china and a few newer pieces.

Spring Decor in Black and White Kitchen

Here in the kitchen, I put away the mugs and replaced them with green drinking glasses. And, these faux jadeite pieces from Walmart are so pretty for springtime.
