30 Cozy Autumn Activities for a Hygge Fall

30 cozy autumn activities to enjoy the season

This year I’m craving autumn!  I love that in autumn the pace seems to slow down as the leaves change and the temps drop.  Today I’m sharing 30 cozy autumn activities to have a hygge fall!  I made this list not just for you, but for me also!  I have a crazy schedule through the end of October, but I don’t want autumn to slip away without really enjoying the season.

I’m sharing this post today as part of the monthly cozy living series hosted by Jennifer at Town and Country Living.  At the end of today’s post,  you’ll find links to more cozy living ideas for September!

grab your camera and head outside to capture nature

Oh, this is a must do!  And, now you don’t even need to carry a camera, you can just use your cell phone!  I love to take a walk outdoors in the fall and snap some pictures along the way!  I took this photo a few years ago while Mark and I were on a walk!  It’s an abandoned train track bridge that has since been made into walking path bridge on our favorite local trail.

add pillows & throws to make your home cozy

I don’t use a lot of throw blankets in the summer months, but I love to add them to my spaces in the fall months.  And, throw pillows with a cozy texture are perfect to add warmth to your autumn home.  What’s more cozy than snuggling into a sofa with some plush pillows and throw blanket to read or watch a movie!

BAKE PUMPKIN ANYTHING

It’s pumpkin time!  And, the pumpkin recipes are abundant!  Browse through some old recipe books or look online for a new pumpkin recipe!  And, bake something yummy with the season’s bounty!  You can find the recipe for these delicious pumpkin cupcakes made with brown butter and iced with a sea salt caramel buttercream in this post!  They are amazing!

gather supplies for your favorite hot beverages

I don’t typically like to drink hot beverages during the spring and summer months, but during the fall and winter months, I love a cup of something hot!  Hot apple cider, hot chocolate, and chai tea are some of my favorites for fall and winter!  Get my easy chai latte recipe in this post!

decorate your front door for fall

Fall is the season I tend to do more on my front porch than other seasons.  I love to layer hay bales, corn shocks, mums, fall leaves, and more to make the entry into my home warm and welcoming!

GO FOR A HIKE IN THE WOODS

Fall is the perfect time to go for a hike in the woods!  Hearing the fallen leaves crunch under your feet is good for the soul! This photo was taken a few years ago when we visited a trail near my childhood home.

ROAST PUMPKIN SEEDS

If you cook your own pumpkin for baking or just carve a pumpkin, don’t throw away those seeds!  Roast them in the oven and enjoy this fall treat!

MAKE YOUR BEDROOM A COZY HAVEN

Make your bedroom a cozy getaway by adding more layers to your bedding with a duvet, quilt, and a blanket or throw!   I can’t wait to do this for the upcoming season!  It’s so nice to climb under those layers at night!

MAKE A FALL WREATH

I really want to challenge myself this year and make a new fall wreath!  If you don’t know where to begin, I have three homemade fall wreaths to DIY on the blog!  The corn shock wreath shown below, a real oak leaf wreath, and a corn husk wreath using corn husks from the grocery store!  What will I come up with this year?

TAKE A DRIVE TO SEE THE FALL COLORS

This is another one that I really want to do this fall!  I’m hoping to find a weekend that Mark and I can head north into the Pocono Mountains to see the beautiful fall colors!  Of course, this isn’t possible for everyone.  But, if you have a chance – do it!

UNPLUG AND READ A BOOK

It’s time to slow down the pace a little, unplug from technology, and read a good book!   Why not visit the local library and borrow a book, like we used to do before Amazon made ordering so easy!

MAKE APPLE CIDER DONUTS

Oh my, I really want to do this for Fall!  My grandmother used to make these every fall and they are so good!   If my recipe turns out to be as good as I remember, then I’ll be sharing it here on the blog!   If you aren’t into baking, these sweet treats can be found at Trader Joe’s and Aldi this time of year!

INVITE FRIENDS OVER FOR A CAMP FIRE

With the cooler evenings, it’s always fun to have a fire in the firepit and have friends or family over to just relax.  Maybe toast some marshmallows or make s’mores, or hot dogs over the fire!

MAKE AN ARRANGEMENT WITH NATURAL ELEMENTS

Go foraging and find some branches or dried flowers to make a natural fall arrangement for indoors!   Get creative and think outside the box to make your own unique, rustic bouquet!

bake bread

This is another thing on my fall “bucket list”!  What’s better than the smell of fresh baked bread coming from the kitchen!  So many people get into bread making while being home during the pandemic.  And, I keep seeing so many beautiful, rustic loaves posted on social media!   So, join me and find a recipe to bake some homemade bread this fall!

play a board game

Bring out the board games for a game night with family or friends!

buy cozy socks and slippers

After being barefoot or wearing flip flops for months, it’s a treat to get a new pair of cozy slippers for the cooler months!  And, I also like to pick up some cozy socks this time of year!   These slide on slippers are my current favorite!

bake an apple pie

Along with pumpkin, apple is the other traditional fall flavor for desserts of all kinds!  There are so many variations to the traditional apple pie.  So, why not try a new recipe this year!  It may end up being your new family favorite!

buy a new fall scented candle

I don’t burn many candles during the warmer spring and summer months, but I do love to burn a candle in the fall and winter months!  And, candles are available in all price ranges!  There’s always a great selection of seasonal candles at HomeGoods, TJ Maxx or Marshall’s.  Or, visit a local maker or Etsy seller!  My son and daughter-in-law make candles for sale, and I need to request a new scent for fall!  There website is Light Your Way Candle Co.

Great fall bucket list. We live on the Gulf Coast, about a mile from the beach, so we don't get to see too many changing colors, and it's usually still about 75° at Thanksgiving. So, I have to rely on candle and plug-in scents, decor, and baking pies and pumpkin seeds to get a feel of fall. It's still my favorite season! I found you over on Remodelacasa after she shared on a link party. If you get a chance, I'd love to have you come share on Crafty Creators Link Party which is open Thursdays at 6am CST thru Mondays at 11:59pm. I think my readers would love to find you as well! You can also share on Happiness is Homemade (Sun-Thurs) & You're the Star Blog Hop (if you don't already share there). Have a great week! Niki | Life as a LEO (law enforcement officer) Wife

Wow you have tons of great ideas. I wasn't going to pick up any real pumpkins this year but after seeing your roasted seeds I'm rethinking that, LOL and I agree anything made with pumpkin is heavenly.
