Do you want to give your home a nod to the summer season, but don’t want to spend a lot of money? Me too! So, today I have five decor ideas that will get your home summer ready!

WELCOME TO MY SUMMER HOME TOUR

And, today is also the kick off to the yearly summer home tour series hosted by my friend, Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. There are 30 home decor bloggers participating in the tour this year. And, you’ll find the complete schedule at the end of this post. If you’re stopping by from Grace in My Space – Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! Wasn’t Sarah’s home beautiful! I love to follow along with her over on Instagram. She is always working on a project!!

Five Decor Ideas to Get Your Home Summer Ready

  1. Add seasonal wall art.
  2. Accessorize with plants and flowers.
  3. Lighten up!
  4. Add a POP of color!
  5. Use wicker and rattan.

Add some seasonal wall art

At the entry to my dining room there’s a sliver of wall that is the perfect spot for a gallery wall. I love to change up the art here seasonally.

In this post I share my sources for free vintage art and this post has tips for sizing art to fit the frames you have. This is a fun and creative way to bring some summer into your home!

ACCESSORIZE WITH PLANTS AND FLOWERS

In the summer months it’s so easy to bring some life into your home with plants and flowers. And, you don’t necessarily need to go to the greenhouse. If you have flowers growing outdoors, grab your sheers and bring in a few stems. I have some honeysuckle blooming right now, so I grabbed a few pieces of that and added some pretty Solomon’s Seal greens to go with it for this white pitcher. Even a branch from a tree can look great in a pretty vase!

I also love to have some fresh herbs available, especially in the summer months. I have a few growing here in the kitchen where I have easy access to them! And, they make your house smell amazing!

And, if you only have a small space, consider making a terrarium or fairy garden. Here’s my take on a fairy garden. In this shallow bowl, I used moss, a few tiny plants from the nursery and some dried flowers and ferns to create a whimsical centerpiece for my table.

LIGHTEN UP

This decor tip has a double meaning. First, I like to “lighten up” with more light weight textiles. Down with the heavy and dark drapes, and in their place, use more airy fabrics. And, I also like to “lighten up” by keeping accessories to a minimum in the summer months. Summer is an easy, breezy season where less is more! So, be intentional about your accessories.

Add a POP of color

With my mainly neutral home, I do love to add in a POP of color in the summer months! In my dining room and kitchen spaces, I used accents in shades of yellow and green.

And, on my porch, I added some rosey red tones with gold, and green accents. I especially feel like I have more freedom to add a bold color on my summer porch.

use wicker and rattan

Wicker and rattan furniture is quintessential summer. But, even if you don’t have wicker or rattan outdoor furniture, you can still accessorize with smaller pieces. Wicker and rattan baskets, planters, magazine racks, serving trays, bowls, lampshades and many more. There are so many accessories in these natural elements that are so perfect for summer. And, these accents are plentiful this time of year and fairly inexpensive too.
