This year I’ve really changed things up by using the traditional fall colors of orange, gold, brown, and green in my Fall Home Tour!
Welcome to my 2019 Fall Home. If you are here visiting from Cassie Bustamante, welcome! I absolutely adore Cassie’s style! Her family moved earlier this year, and I’ve loved following how she is transforming a house into a beautiful, cozy home for her family! And, I have to take a moment to thank our host, Marty of A Stroll Thru Life, for all she does to host these seasonal tours! For the most part, I’ve kept my home decor neutral for the past few years. I do love a neutral palate, but I began craving some color. So, here’s a look at my Fall living room with more traditional fall colors.

Pretty dramatic, right? I painted the white shiplap focal wall this moody gray/green, Luxe by Magnolia Home. I’m absolutely loving the dark and moody vibe. I’m not totally sure about the shade of green, but I’m going to live with it for a bit. It reads a bit “teal” (depending on the lighting) and that’s not really what I was going for. But, I do love the pop of color it adds.
The other change in the room was a new area rug from Rugs USA. They had a fantastic sale Labor Day weekend and I picked up this Celeste Green Faded Persian Rug. Rugs are so inexpensive now and they make such a big impact in a room! I really fell in love with the muted, faded colors in this particular rug.
You might think that these more traditional fall colors wouldn’t work with my gray furniture, but they do. And, they really make my living room feel cozy for fall.
A Fall Gallery Wall
I’m practicing restraint when it comes to how many pillows I stack on my sofas. My kids come over and throw them on the floor! So, instead of five, I went with three in varying sizes and shapes. And, above the sofa I created a little fall-themed gallery wall.
I’ll be sharing more about this gallery wall soon, including the details of how we made the architectural piece from an old headboard.
I love to use brass in the fall. It just warms up a space with its glow. This oblong brass pedestal bowl with a real pumpkin and faux greens and berries from Hobby Lobby make quite a statement on the black mantel.
All of the pretty pillows are from Home Goods, except the black and white buffalo check pillow. I got it at Pier One last year. You can find it HERE.
Another fall favorite is amber glass. I wish my amber glass jug and jar were vintage. But, I picked them up at Target! The large jug is from the Hearth and Hand Line. And, the small jar with the pheasant feathers was $3 in the dollar spot! The faux stems in the large and the wooden mushroom are all from Hobby Lobby. The faux florals are 50% off this week!
I painted a new primitive floral for the entryway. I’ll be making prints of this painting available in my Etsy shop soon.
And, I’m longing for some cooler fall weather to wear these boots and felt hat.
Now lets, move from the living room into the dining room. This space is more like what you are used to seeing here – light and bright! But, I carried the use of brass and a bit of fall color with this rust colored mum. You can bring a garden mum indoors. Just make sure they get light and water. It was hard to find one blooming this early!
Fall Dining Room
It’s hard to see, but I used a plaid brown, black and ivory throw on table. This throw blanket was a little small to cover the entire table, so I laid it on an angle with the ends draping over the sides. For a centerpiece, I used the long breadboard that I made years ago and this crock filled with fall grasses. And, I love this little glazed ceramic pumpkin that matches perfectly!
Here’s a closer look at my corner cabinet.
The wood leaf garland is from Home Goods last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have them again this year too. I love getting these kinds of garlands. It was used last year and is on display now, and I think I’m going to cut it apart and use the individual leaves on my Thanksgiving place settings this year!
I purchased this scroll with one of my favorite fall quotes by F. Scott Fitzgerald – “Life Starts all Over Again When it Gets Crisp in the Fall.” I thought about trying to make my own, but I’m so glad I just purchased this one. The paper is really heavyweight, so it won’t tear easily when in storage.
Thanks so much for stopping by to see my Fall Home today! I’d love to hear what you think about the painted shiplap and the use of more traditional colors!

I’m always blown away by how beautifully you change everything with just a few colors and accessories. That fireplace looks so pretty for fall!
Your use of color is refreshing. I have always been, and still am, I color person. I have enjoyed the trend of gray, white and farmhouse and considered its simplicity and calming effect, and I had moments of wishing I could change my look similarly. I just could not fully embrace the lack of color. While I don’t use the traditional orange colors in my decorating, fall is a perfect time to give rise to the exuberance of the season. Thank you for sharing your lovely home and its homage to the season.
What a beautiful home you have created. So warm and inviting for fall. I love the use of so many things from nature.
Very pretty Fall tour…..and I do like the painted shiplap wall. Yes, it does look teal in the photos but it looks fine with your grays…..nice touch. I also like neutrals but who cannot love a bright orange pumpkin? It’s a great pop of color and makes your space so inviting. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
just beautiful, doreen! i LOVE the green shiplap and all those naturals and ambers got t me!
Everything is so beautiful! I really love the deep color of the shiplaped wall. Once again, you’ve knocked it out of the park.
Looks absolutely stunning! All the colors look tres chic! And the touches of amber and orange are so classy. This is the nicest I’ve seen so far. I had to laugh when you said “I don’t know why I do this to myself!”…..I say that all the time…….God’s blessings on the wedding, your children, and their marriage. I’m sure your fall wedding will be beautiful.
Your home always looks so lovely and cozy! Enjoy your wedding preparations this fall!
Doreen, I love the dark color on the shiplap wall! It gives a total new look your living room. And hey, I’m paying attention to those walls, love the one in your dining room too.
I love that you have a prayer plant (that is what I was told is the name of the plant) in your living room! Your newly painted wall looks gorgeous!
Yes, Lyn! It is a prayer plant! I just moved in indoors! It was on my screen porch all summer and did well out there. Hoping I can keep it alive through the colder months indoors!
I always enjoy your seasonal home tours! I like the dramatic change with the traditional colors! I really love your dining room though! I have some leftover buffalo check paper from our barn room. Thinking about copying you and doing one wall with it in my dining room!💕
It’s so pretty, Doreen! Magnolia Homes has some gorgeous paint colors, don’t they? Your pillow comment made me laugh since my kids do the same. Happy (almost) fall–Christy
LOVE the bold color on the wall!!! Looks warm and inviting. And am completely in love with your paintings! Happy to hear you will be making prints!
Wall comes across as a little teal vs mossy green. So hard to find the perfect shade when you have to take into consideration how it will play off your furniture, how much natural light comes into your room, and how it will look at night with just lamps. It’s only paint, so live with it and repaint when you are in the mood for change. It does bring a whole new feel to the room.
I do that too, jump into projects at the worst possible time. Guess I’m a procrastinator so I accomplish more when I’m under pressure.
Thanks for sharing.
Sharon
Love the dark green wall in the living room, such a statement. The gallery wall is a favorite too. Beautiful tour.
You’ve done it again! I love the warm colors and especially crazy about your mantel! It’s phenomenal! Happy Fall!
Oh I adore the rich colors Doreen! Your mantel looks fabulous and the scroll is fantastic.
Wow what a difference that wall color makes!! It was wonderful before as well, but it really has a whole different kind of mood now. Love your pillows and that settee is so fabulous:-)
Just beautiful Doreen! I love the accent wall and the pops of orange on the fireplace. Every photo is “pinnable!” Love it all!
Happy fall!
Your wall is beautiful! I ordered the hat! I have been wanting one, so I just did it! I think it will be nice to just display if it doesn’t fit my big head! Lol
I love your fall touches. Your mantel is just gorgeous!!!
Doreen- ever element you chose is perfection! Such a beautiful and cozy feeling!
SO pretty! I love all of your vintage touches!
the green is so perfect for fall! And i’m in love with your mantel styling. xoxo
Love the gallery wall, the pheasant picture and the headboard (I would have come home with that too). Your living room and dining room are terrific. . . . of course, I just checked and the crock is sold out in my area. It all looks cozy. Thanks for sharing.
It’s so beautiful but I love, love, love your kitchen! I need one of those scrolls and the little leaf garland is adorable!
I love the color you added into your living room! It’s fun to see last year’s post and this one and the two beautiful ways you’ve had your space! Such gorgeous styling in both! I love your gallery wall too!! I love the scroll and that black dresser! The whole dining room is wonderful with that buffalo check wall!!
Doreen, I didn’t think I could love last years Fall tour with the greens but then ..this years! wow, love that moody wall with the simplicity of the brass candle holders and the orange. it’s so pretty.
So what about the logs and candles inside your fireplace? I love them! Can you give us some details on those? Thanks! Your whole house is lovely!
